Ha Noi, 24 February 2016, Women Union of Thuong Tin district, in cooperation with People’s Committee of Duyen Thai commune, Thuong Tin district, Hanoi and Coca-Cola Vietnam today officially launched the Asia's second EKOCENTER at the culture house of Ha Thai hamlet, Duyen Thai commune, Hanoi. This new center marks a new milestone of EKOCENTER program, one of the leading sustainability initiatives of Coca-Cola, to help strengthen and connect communities over the world.
Mr. Vamsi Mohan, General Director of Coca-Cola Vietnam, shared: "The EKOCENTER initiative has been successfully implemented in Africa, Latin America, and most recently in Ho Chi Minh city early 2015. The event today once again demonstrates for the company’s commitment to escalating the essential values which help building a better life for local communities. By supplying the fundamental benefits like: safe drinking water, free wifi for learning and information research, open spaces for sports, training, and social activities, we expect to see the positive changes in the lives of people.”
Located at the culture house of Ha Thai hamlet, Duyen Thai commune, Thuong Tin district, this second EKOCENTER, based on the 3-in-1 model, is equipped with a whole roof made from solar panels supplied by Solarkiosk - a prestigious German partner specialized in sustainable energy solutions. The green energy from the center can produce approximately 8kW of electricity per day to maintain the whole center's activities. Besides, EKOCENTER's water treatment system can purify about 6,000 liters of water daily to serve for the need of 3,000 local people. In addition, EKOCENTER is designed as a kiosk and provided necessary facilities to support a group of local women in running their small business to increase income and earn budget for maintaining the center’s activities.
Mr. Do Duc Viet, Secretary of Duyen Thai commune Party Committee, said: “We highly appreciate the great cooperation of Coca-Cola Vietnam, Women’s Union and other related partners in building the EKOCENTER at Duyen Thai commune, Thuong Tin district. Bringing clean drinking water to communities has always been the desire and top priority of both local authorities and people, particularly in Duyen Thai commune where people are in an urgent need of clean water source. A clean and safe water source will definitely help create a healthier life for communities. We believe this EKOCENTER in Duyen Thai commune and the upcoming centers will be the key structures helping improve and shape a higher living quality for local communities."
Apart from providing clean drinking water for households, EKOCENTER is also facilitated with a community house and a sport faculty with a mini football field. EKOCENTER will operate as a hub for culture exchange and sportive activities of local communities, helping encourage a more dynamic and healthy lifestyle. The wireless information portal at EKOCENTER allows people to access to a wide information sources without paying fee, helping improve the knowledge and capability of every individual in particular and community in general.
Ms. Tran Hong Hanh, District committee member, President of Women Union of Thuong Tin district – the main partner of the project in Duyen Thai, Thuong Tin – said: "This is not only an honor for the Women Union but also a joy to local people because people can now benefit from the center's drinking water and other utilities. Besides, guided by the idea of empowering the women’s economic capability, the Women Union cooperated with Coca-Cola to provide sales training courses for 20 local members. A group of three women selected from this course is given chance to start their business at the kiosk of EKOCENTER for a more stable income. They are also the ones who will operate the Center in the future. In addition, we will work to Duyen Thai commune People’s Committee to host vocational training courses for women, free heath check-ups and medicines supports for local residents. We hope that this model will be spread out more so that more people can benefit from this meaningful project."
In addition, Vietnam Red Cross – one of the main partners of Coca-Cola Vietnam and EKOCENTER program – will biannually organize the health check-up, advisory activities and free medicine supports at EKOCENTER for around 400-600 people each time. Other communication programs to provide useful information of clean water, maternity healthcare, natural disaster prevention are also in progress at the center.

The EKOCENTER is expected to be launched at 7 locations throughout Vietnam in 2016, including Da Nang, Ha Long, Ha Noi, and Mekong Delta.
